  1. Default Virginia to Las Vegas, NV and back

I am doing my first road trip cross country and hoping to do it in three weeks if not less. Will it work? My first stop will be in Missouri for a family reunion then it is off to Las Vegas for a convention. Those are the primary reasons for going but I would love to do some other stops along the way since I am already there. Any suggestions on this? I have no idea what I am doing. On a side note I will be with one other which will help pay for half of everything. I need advice on gas, time, things to do.

    Default Something to ponder.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

You don't say exactly where you are starting from or heading to in Missouri, but for multi day trips you should really keep your mileage to between 500-600 miles, which will equate to 9-10 hours on the road with basic rest stops and to fill with gas etc.

With 3 weeks you have a reasonable amount of time, but again we don't know how long you need to stay in Vegas.

To see new things it is always a good idea to take a different route each direction, so for example you could head out through Missouri and into Colorado and Utah and come home via AZ, NM, OK and so on. This would be about 9 a day drive based on the above figures so once you have figured out your two main stops, you will have an idea of how much time you have remaining to explore a little. Where ? Well this would depend on your interests, of which we know nothing of, so I would look around the forums and open up a good map and see what catches your eye. Once you have some dots on the map we can help fill in the blanks and 'fine tune' your plans.

As you drive through the 'Four Corners' region there are some great National parks, [Grand canyon for one] scenic drives and all sorts of wonders. Even though I love the scenic wonders, St Louis, Memphis and Nashville are places I would like to visit at some time.

Enjoy the planning and just ask as questions arise.
