Driving from Seattle to Oklahoma

Hi all,
So I'm a complete novice-I've done three road trips: one to Alaska from Lake Tahoe, one from Alaska to Seattle and one up Australia's eastern coast. Now I am looking for advice on another road trip, from Seattle to Oklahoma. It will be done in August. There really is no timeframe, but it will begin in the beginning of August and need to end by the 16th. It will be two young females so we'd prefer a safer route.

We will have some stuff in our car, but not much (but did I mention the possibility of a cat? :|). I'd really just like a nice route, with nice scenery and not too much traffic (and I'd prefer to avoid larger cities). I wouldn't mind stopping at a National Park or two, but there won't be any camping or hiking involved (my travelmate is not very outdoorsy). I've seen quite a bit of the West Coast, but she hasn't. AAA triptiks advises me through Oregon, Utah and Idaho which all sounds beautiful, but I have always wanted to go to Glacier NP as well--any recommendations on that?

Any mapping software, like triptik, is going to default to what it calculates to be the shortest/fastest route, and in this case that is a diagonal through Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, etc.

However, this is a roadtrip, and the beauty of a roadtrip is that the car goes where you tell it to, not where someone else has decided. In this case, if you've never been to Glacier and that's someplace you want to go, then you should look at working it into your route. You could certainly do something where you go to Glacier, down through Yellowstone, then into Colorado before you head more east again towards OK.

Of course, a lot of this will depend upon exactly how much time you have, if this is a round trip, and some of the other details (like the cat) that you are still working out.

The best thing to do is get a road atlas or a large scale map of the US, and start picking out things you want to see that are roughly between Seattle and Oklahoma. You have already mentioned Glacier, and there are a lot of attractions between there and OK. I'd think Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons would be right on the way, as would all the Utah parks and the Colorado Rockies. When you have a bunch of "dots" on the map, start connecting them, and we can help you figure out what you have time to see.

Figure out what you want to see before you try to plan an exact route.
