    Default Update [Glacier point open.]

Just to confirm for any visitors to Yosemite that Glacier point actually opened on the 29th May.

For those of you hoping to cross the Tioga anytime soon the news isn't so good. Local gossip on the 31st May is suggesting risk of avalanche, exceptional amounts of snow and 6-8ft high snow banks along the road, and that it could be another couple of weeks from that date to opening !

Was in YNP for the memorial day weekend and yes Glacier was indeed open, though it was closed intermittently. But that was because of incredible amount of traffic, the road itself was fine almost all the way. Except on the return trip, I urge people to be careful as there is one pretty huge pothole, that has messed up my right wheel alignment and I now suffer from vibrations!

Ebbets and Monitor pass was open for the long weekend and I took Ebbets from Tahoe to Yosemite. Simply gorgeous but touch hair raising drive that!

  3. Default Latest Update as of now! As per NPS

    http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/conditions.htm

Tioga Road (Highway 120 through the park)
Opens Sat., June 5, at 8 am, conditions permitting.

    So who has Jun 5th??

Default We may have a super winner

Exodus has that exact date/time; I'm a tad early (tomorrow noon was my guess).

Mark; you may be on the hook for a prize this time!

    Default Waiting game.

    Wow !

That's a quick turn around from the "local gossip" I linked too !

It certainly sounds promising, although we will have to wait untill it's been made official on the NPS site before calling it.

Wow! I can't believe that I might have actually got it right. We'll see if it holds up!

Believe it or not, it's my birthday tomorrow so that would be a great present! :)

    Default Photo finish!

No official updates, and Caltrans is reporting it closed at this time, but an unofficial source is reporting it to have opened at 5pm yesterday, here.

Exciting finish to the contest with Exodus looking favorite and Don looking to go one better than last year!

Good luck to both of you !

    Default Another update.

    One of you two !

The update from Caltrans would appear to confirm that the pass is now open, so now it's a case of waiting for Yosemite NP to confirm when, and if memory serves me right, they are not usually that quick to do so.

Even though it may have been open yesterday, it looks like the *official* opening was in fact today at 8, if you believe Caltrans.

    Stay tuned..........

Default The Tioga Pass Prognosticator Sheriff is on the road

Yeah, it's looking like a photo finish...

Dave is the "official voice" as The Tioga Pass Prognosticator Sheriff and I believe he's on the road and not able to reach the Web for a couple of days. (I see he posted this morning -- I thought he had already left...)

Upon his return -- I'm sure he'll make the call ...

    Standing by here...

    Mark
