  1. Default NYC to Niagara Falls

Hey! My boyfriend and I are planing a Road Trip from NYC to Niagara Falls next weekend. (April 16-18)

I know two nights are not alot of time.but we were planing on leaving friday late afternoon around 5 or 6 and stoping along the way to spend the night somewhere...in a bed and breakfast...to continue the trip to canada on saturday where we will stay another night on the canadian side...

I would really love to see as much as possible that weekend, especially old towns and villages and a lot of the country side...so i was wondering if anyone has any advice on where to stop along the way and if anyone knows of a nice bed and breakfast for friday night (on the country side or in an historic town?)

    thanks so much!

    Default Niagara-on-the-lake

Check out Niagara-on-the-lake, just 15/20 minutes drive from the falls. Nice little town with many restaurants, winery's (wine tasting) and theaters. If you have a sweet tooth (like mine), must stop at the 'Maple Leaf Fudge'.

If you haven't already booked, usually you can find a good deal on the Canadian side on this site.

As a Canadian, we always end up staying on the US side as it is much cheaper.

thank you for your response! That sounds great and we will definetely go and see it on saturday...do you/or someone else know of nice stops along the way NYC-Canadian Border? Since we will be stopping half way through on Friday (on the US Side-so we dont have to do the full 7 hours after work on friday)....are tehre nice towns with cute bed and breakfasts along the way? google maps gives us three alternative routes I-81 N and I-90 W or I-390 N or I-80 W and US-219 N which one is prettier to drive?

    thanks again for your help!

Default New York (City) to Niagara

There are (at least) a couple of possible routes between New York City and Niagara Falls, and each has its own attractions. The southerly route would take you by the Delaware Water Gap, the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, Watkins Glen and Letchworth State Parks, while the northerly route would have you follow the old Erie Canal through the birthplace of the Women's Movement, a waterfall even higher than Niagara, and along the edge of a mountain retreat.

I was born and raised in Western New York, so I know the best and worst of Niagara Falls. You don't have a lot of time, so here are the best sights at Niagara. Cave of the Winds (if Open) Bridal Veil Falls and Terrapin Point on Goat Island between the main falls, Maid of the Mist from the American side, any of the towers on the Canadian side, The river Road in Canada, The Aerocar at Whirlpool Rapids, Niagara Glen Park just past Whirlpool in Canada, and either the Adam Beck Power Plant or the Robert Moses Power Plant. Take the Rainbow Bridge into Canada and the Lewiston Bridge coming back to the States.
There are a lot of tourist traps on both sides of Niagara Falls, but the sights I suggested are all either inexpensive or free and will provide good views and pictures. If you like hiking, Niagara Glen will give you some exercise, too.

Thanks so much for your great help! I am still struggling to find nice bed and breakfast along the route to the falls....I was thinking maybe somewhere around scranton or binghamton...does anyone know of a charming B&B maybe on the country side not too farr off the route I-81? thanks soo much!

I would look at B&Bs in the Finger Lakes area. I don't know of any, but a google search turned up a bunch of promising leads. Tripadvisor is also a valuable resource for reviews.
