Best Route from New York to Arkansas

We are planning for a memorable road trip from NewYork to Arkansas, we will be starting on Dec 26th and want to be in Arkansas by Jan 1st. Please let us know your suggestions regarding the route and wonderful places that we can visit along the way.

You've certainly got a reasonable amount of time for this trip, however, you haven't told us really anything about you, your interests, or what route you might be looking to take.

The shortest route would likely be to take I-81 to I-40, and could be done in 2-3 days pretty easily. But with the time you have you have a lot of options available.

It depends on where in NY you are coming from. If you're coming from Western NY (Buffalo area) I'd recommend taking the 5 rather than I-90 to Erie. Highway 5 is a magnificently scenic road and runs straight through the Pennsylvania Lake Erie wine country. Not to mention, it takes just about about as long. I'd also recommend stopping by Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater on your way south...again depending on where you're coming from in New York.

In Virginia...my state...there is a TON of stuff to do. Rather than I-81 you could start on I-95, and hit four president's homes on the way south through Virginia, (Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Wilson) crossing Afton Mountain on I-64 and then taking 81 South. We also have Shenandoah National Park which is just half an hour off I-81. Depending on where in Arkansas you're heading it's only about a 18 hour drive from most parts of the DC metro region. Once you cross into Tennessee, there's still a bunch. I-40 is going to be your best way across to Arkansas...hands down. Getting to I-40, however, can be a LOT of fun.
