  1. Default What is the best choice of a CAMPER for long term road trip?

    Hello everyone,

I am going to go to long term road trip across the USA, about 5 months with a camper.
We are a family of four, two adults and two kids.
So I am going to buy a camper.
But I do not know what camper is the best choice for us.

Even though a camper is small and uncomfortable like small pop up camper, should I buy it for easy towing and fuel economy?
Or even if I have to pay more money for the fuel and tow harder, is comfort the best considering fact?
What is the most important factor(or factors) for long term road trip with a camper?

My budget for the camper is up to $5,000 for used one.

    Please give me your advice.
    Thank you in advance

Are you a US resident? What do you have for a tow vehicle?

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

You really haven't given us anywhere near enough information to even start guessing what sort of camper might be best for you. Things like what is important like price vs comfort are thing your really have to decide based on your own preference - there is no one size fits all answer.

I suspect a pop-up probably is not a wise choice for you since you will be on the road for such an extended period of time, and I'm guessing that means you are going to be moving around at least a fair bit. If you're going to be spending long periods of time in one place it would be different, but I'd think you'd want something with hard sides that you don't have to tear down every time you are moving to a new destination. To me, a pop-up is a better choice if you're just going to be taking it out for weekend, setting it up, leaving it there for a few days, and then going home.

Having said that, a pop up is going to be much easier to find with your budget and if you're going to be using a small car for towing, then that would probably make some sense.

I really would encourage you to check out the many articles about RV travel and the pros and cons about different types that you'll find by looking around in the planning section of this website.
