CRAZY TOURIST STOPS? Baltimore to New Orleans

Hey Y'all!

I want to plan a crazy roadtrip with my boyfriend from Baltimore, Maryland down to the great <edit> South!

We're big goofballs and want to stop at the cheesiest, funniest and ultimately most ridiculous tourist stops? Aside from Dollywood, does anyone have any suggestions for worthwhile pit stops?

The whole town of Gatlinburg is solid cheese - right down the road from Dollywood.

Hello AWTY,

I like referring RoadTrippers to Snappy Lunch, located in Mount Airy, NC. If you're an old coot like me, you know of The Andy Griffith Show and that it was set in fictional Mayberry, NC. Mount Airy is the actual hometown of Andy Griffith and was referred to as "Mount Pilot" on the show. A large monadanock called Pilot Mountain is nearby, providing the "Mount Pilot" name.

The community has embraced all things Mayberry and that includes Snappy Lunch. The old-style diner features fried pork chop sandwiches which I understand are terrific. If you're interested, go early. They're said to close each day once the last fresh pork chop is served.

Mount Airy, NC is north of Winston-Salem along the I-73/74 corridor, not far from I-77.

...but if you come down through Louisiana after crossing the river around Memphis (Graceland - as kitschy as they come) you have a chance to visit the site where Bonnie and Clyde were gunned down on state highway 154 south of town as well as a couple of museums in town. Then there's the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge where Huey Long was assassinated.
