Default Looks too small to be the Air & Space Museum

The first response would be the Air and Space Museum at the Smithsonian in Washington DC -- but I would shift my guess to Oregon and the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville?

    Default The other one?

Perhaps the new location of A&S out by IAD?

No to both. Just to note, that isn't the real Endeavor, unlike the Enterprise at the Smithsonian Annex. But it is a real Blackbird. And there are plenty of other artifacts, including one that figured prominently in a Oscar winning movie.

    Default How about in Kansas?

That thinly veiled reference might have been to the Apollo 13 movie? If so, I tender: the Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas?

Yep. Second biggest collection of US space artifacts outside of the Smithsonian, and second biggest collection of Russian artifacts outside of Moscow. Very neat place in an area you'd never expect it.

Default I have fond memories of Hutchinson

On July 3rd, 1995, Megan and I met Bill Ahlgrim, who gave us a tour of the Rainbo Bakery Factory -- They were gearing up to make thousands of hot dog and hamburger buns for the 4th of July holiday that year. I will always have a soft spot in my roadtrippin' heart for Hutchinson, Kansas!

Now, I know I'll need to stop and look at this museum -- how'd you know about it?

Default We haven't had a road shot in a while....

This is a little further west than Kansas.... Have you ever been on this road? At least two of the Moderators here have been...

Where is this? What's the name of the road in this spot?

In prep for my first X-Country road trip in '06 (Found this place for my 2nd in '07). Took US-50 for most of it, and Road Trip USA (by Jamie Jensen)was the general guide I used for that trip.

The US memorabilia is good, but I learned more about the Russian Space Program than I would have ever expected in the middle of Kansas. I highly recommend a stop.

It's a lot less popular than the Tioga Pass road, but it bears a very similar function -- not very far west of this spot are creeks full of trout....
