Summer trip MPLS to NYC

I am planning a road trip with a friend from Minneapolis to Brooklyn. We have plans to stop in Indiana at Lake Hamilton and also in Philadelphia. What I am looking for is stops along the way that will be kid friendly. We are traveling with a 9 year old and a 1 year old. We want to give them breaks from being in the car so they do not get cranky and ansy. Any suggestions???? All will be appreciated. Thanks!

Some time ago, I put together lists of quick, family friendly stops near the Interstates. These will be perfect for you and your smaller child, and perhaps for the 9 year old as well, but if your older one has specific interests, maybe we could suggest something more appropriate. Or even better, you could have him go over a map with your route marked on it and see if there's anything he'd particularly like to see.
