    You got it.

We did the full Devil's Causeway loop a few years back. Climb to the ridge, over the causeway across the Flat Tops and back down.
Over 9 miles of classic Colorado hiking. A tough climb, sweeping vistas, wildflowers, snow and a bit of sheer terror.

    This one should be easier.

    Default Yellowstone Lake

Er.... Yellowstone Lake in Yellowstone NP, but I'll have to look up the pool's name.

    Black Pool!

    That didn't take long.

The Black Pool used to be black but the water heated up and now it's a really nice blue.

    Default Good explanation

I'd wondered about that. Over what time frame did it change from black to blue?

Oh and by the way, what a gorgeous shot -- the different hues of blue -- and the virga in the sky --great!

    Default Balcony House

It could be Balcony House at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado....

    Great angle again!

Default And a much easier one....

What would one find downstream from this point?

The change from black to blue happened during the Summer of 1991. The pool erupted several times that year, then settled down to a temperature just below boiling.

Yellowstone's thermal features are not static. We talked to a park survey team while visiting Norris Basin on this same trip. They were checking a trail that had been closed because the ground was hot enough to melt tennis shoes. If you watched the BBC drama Supervolcano, you saw the same team. The film crew was shooting while we were at Norris Basin.

Most tourists take photos during the middle of a bright sunny day. But the best shots are often taken near sunrise, sunset, and when the weather is a bit dicey. To compose this one, I actually leaned over the pool. (After checking to make absolutely sure the railing was in good shape).

I got some great photos on this trip. The only problem is they were done with a 1.3 megapixel camera. Great for web pages, but not for enlarging to hang on a wall.
