  1. Default Devil's Slide - Highway 1

    Hi All

I'm currently driving PCH1 from LA to SF (it's faaab!). I've just done the San Simeon to Monterey stretch, some of which I found rather scary as I'm scared of heights.

So, my question is - I've just been reading about Devil's Slide and the surrounding area, and I'm trying to mentally prepare for it! How high is this stretch of road, compared to the high bit between San Simeon and Gorda?

    Many thanks!

Good for you for doing it anyway. By now you've passed the "scariest" parts. The Devil's Slide drives the road engineers bonkers, but the road grade winds up the canyon and so you really don't have the drop-off sensations like you did in the earlier parts of the coast highway route.

Thanks so much for the response Mark, I feel much happier about it now. Not sure I could endure another day with so much adrenaline! SF here I come!
