Georgia to California on a budget

Hi Everyone,

This forum seems like the best place to gather the information I'm looking for. My sister and I are driving from GA to CA and back, on a budget.

We already have all our campsites and hostels booked. Listed below are all the cities we'll be visiting. We have 2-3 days to spend in each place. We're hoping you can help fill in the details.

Specifically, we'd like advice on:
>Affordable local restaurants
>The most memorable "sights to see" or "things to do"

I always like to wander around in new places looking for places to eat, but I wouldn't be your best guide to affordable restaurants. Many times I end up in places that look to be affordable and turn out to be very expensive. Would you think a place called the "Charcoal Pit" would be over $70 a person...12 years ago?

As for sights, it seems that most of the places you've listed are sights unto themselves.
