And I believe that the planes over Niagara are AT-6 Texans, but I don't recognize the markings. Who has that many and does formation flights?

And.... technically you are also correct, they were also configured as AT-6 Texans -- here is some more detailed information about the planes. and this site is the group of pilots we worked with in 1997.

The rest of the story... We went to see the cave and the bats and then the rain came.
The Park Rangers made us leave the park and we never got to see even one bat.
I guess we will have to go back.
