Me and my friend would like to take a road trip across the U.S.. We are from California and both just graduated high school in December. I'm not ready to go to college and she doesn't want to go to college. I told her I wanted to go on a road trip and she said let's do it! So here I am trying to figure out how we're going to do this. Neither of us have very much money and right now all the money I'm earning is going towards a trip to Europe this summer. We haven't talked about this roadtrip very much so I don't have any details but I wanted to see if this is even going to be possible. I suggested that we work, save our money, and take off next January. But I don't know if that will be enough. One huge thing I thought of was what kind of vehicle are we going to take? We only have our parents cars and vans that are old and I don't really want to rely on, plus I know my parents won't let me put that many miles on their car. They might even try to stop me from taking this trip (I haven't told them yet) but I don't care what they think. Anyways, I know that you can rent cars to take across country but you have to be 25 or at least be 21 and pay an extra fee. We will both be 18 by next January so we can't rent a car that I know of. And we probably won't be able to stay in a lot of hotels so I guess we'll camp and sleep in the car....? I don't think we really know what we're getting into, all we know is that we want to go. We want to see all there is to see and experience life. So I know we'll find a way to go but we need all the help we can get! By the way I want to put out there that we are two reckless teens trying to rebel or runaway or anything. We're very responsible and I want to take this trip to find myself (I know that sounds cliche but it's true) and figure out my life. I'm not ready to make decisions about school or what I want to do with my life. I need to live first and see what the world has to offer. So please help us out by giving us advice on how do to do this. And please don't say we're too young or that it's a bad idea because I know we can do it and we will do it. So how do we start planning this? And what will we need?
