family fun in san francisco?

Hi there,

My family is up visiting me. I live near Sacramento and we're planning a day trip into San Francisco. Our group will be me, my husband, my sister (all in our mid 20s), my parents (in their 50s), my little brother (13) and my nephew (4). I'm looking for some fun activities that we can do that will appeal to a wide variety of ages and interests. So far, I'm thinking a tour of Alcatraz will be fun (if I can convince my nephew and sister to come), Zeum - the children's museum might be neat to check out (at least for my nephew), and MOMA would be great (for me, my mom and my hubby). :-/

I'd love to hear any ideas that you have for me. Also, if you have any tips to make the trip more enjoyable I'd really appreciate it.

Hello and welcome to the R.T.A forums.

Alcatraz is entertainment for all ages, and in my opinion well worth visiting. The kids should love the boat ride and "getting locked up" in a cell. If you decide to go it's best to book tickets in advance to save having to Que for ages at the ticket office. You can find other tour companies that you can buy tickets from if you want a bus tour etc thrown in with it [which is how they make there money] as the only ferry that lands on the island is operated for the N.P.S. You can book your tickets here.

There is loads to do in the wharf area and Pier '39 is a big hit with visitors, offering street entertainers, the sea lions and some kiddies rides as well as shops and restaurants. Nearby you have "Ripleys believe it or not" and there is a wax works museum. This may be a handy link for fun with kids and there should be plenty to keep you entertained in the one general area around the wharf.
