  1. Default Sending my parents on a roadtrip

    Hi there,

I have done this trip before but wanted some advice. My mum is going to Vegas for her 60th with my father. After that, I want to get them down to Grand Canyon for 2 nights after and then up to Death Valley.

In my opinion, this is quite a big drive for one day (although I have done it!) and wanted something for them to see en route. Is there anywhere that isn't Vegas that is worth seeing and would provide a one night stop off to break the journey? Start point is probably South Rim and destination is probably Furnace Creek - but suggestions are welcome! I just want them to experience the Canyon and Death Valley.

    Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to the Great American RoadTrip Forum! It is a five hour drive from Las Vegas to the south rim, under the best of circumstances, and so a route from the south rim to Furnace Creek would be a seven hours. There is plenty of scenic wonder between these two places, but it makes much more sense to see Death Valley as a day trip from Las Vegas, than as a marathon run from the Grand Canyon. Here are some more day trip ideas from Las Vegas.

Many thanks! I did the drive in a day once (FC to GC) and ended up having to go to the doctor due to cramp in my foot from it.... but that was also after doing Yosemite to DV in one day with the pass over the mountains shut so having to trek north to get through!
