Hey RTA,
I'm currently planning a road trip within the next couple of weeks from the Northeast to Nashville, TN. Would love your guy's recommendations on places to see and visit along the way!

Welcome to the RTA Forum!
There's really no such thing as a one size fits all roadtrip, so more details would be helpful. "The Northeast" is a big place, so a little better idea of a starting point is important - as trip starting in Buffalo would be quite a bit different than one starting in Boston. Knowing how much time you have and your interests are also key things.
In the meantime, you can also check out some of the other resources on this site - including our Map Center, which can show you RTA's personally recommended attractions along a route.
As Michael has pointed out, we really can't help you much if we don't know what you want, but we can help you to choose between various options by simply listing them out. One task would be to pick a basic route, and here your three main options are: 1) down the east coast to DC, then follow the Appalachians to Knoxville before making the final turn to Nashville; 2) Avoid most of the large cities included in (1) by first heading up to Hartford and then using I-84/I-81 to Knoxville; and 3) I-84 to Scranton/I-81, I-80, I-76 to Akron/I-71 to Louisville/I-65 to Nashville. All three options are around 1,100 miles long, so two full days of hard driving or three with a number of 1-2 hour stops. You can obviously take different routes to and from Nashville.
Your second major choice is what you want to do along the above route(s): Sightsee, visit historic sites, sample different geographic and cultural regions, etc. We're more than happy to help you, but again we need to know more than the termini of your trip to be of service.

The title starts with RI, which I would suspect means Rhode Island. Not quite a completely narrowed down start point, but being the small state it is, much less than the northeast (which may not really include Buffalo, as NY is technically not part of that region ;) ).
