  1. Default Seattle to Dallas - Leaving February 25th, 2022

I am moving from Seattle to Dallas, I drive a 2016 Ford Edge 2wheel, front wheel drive. I am looking for the fastest but safest trip home. I am checking all weather, and road conditions......so far everything looks ok.....ANY and ALL advise is very much welcomed....I will be traveling alone with a dog.....
I am going to try Hwy 90 to Hwy 25 to 287......

    Welcome to RTA!

If there is any uncertainty about the weather, I'd recommend you take as close to an all-Interstate route as possible. This route takes essentially the same amount of time as the one you proposed:

I-90 to I-82 to I-84 to I-80 to I-25 to Denver, E-470 bypass (license plate toll) to I-70 to Salina KS, I-135 to I-35 (toll from Wichita to OK) to Dallas. If there's any bad weather, take I-90 all the way to I-25, I-80 through WY can get quite nasty.

Thank you....I have downloaded several map and weather apps....and also have a current paper map......I have ZERO experience with snow/ice driving as I moved to Seattle from Hawaii.....hahahaha
I have like 3 routes printed up...but I like your suggestion as well....wish me luck.....

Not so sure that the E-470 toll road will be necessary; as said, it's a license plate toll. It will depend on what time you come through Denver.

The toll between Wichita and the KS/OK state line is about $2.75, according to my brother (who does not have a K-Tag).

It sounds as though you are prepared with maps and weather apps. Another suggestion would be to make sure you have an extra day to wait out a storm if necessary. Lastly, make sure that you have your vehicle looked over by your trusted mechanic before you leave.

I've given up on using I-25 south of Loveland CO due to construction and the many crashes that come with narrow lanes, rerouted lanes, poorly marked lanes and mixed speeds of traffic and general mayhem.

The following may work for you since you are working your way south and east toward Texas.

I recently made a run to Pampa,Texas from N Colo using the following route (only recommended in good weather when roads are dry)-

At Loveland, (I-25 MM257) take US 34 East thru Greeley (stays 4 lanes but gets down to 40 for short stretch). Continue US34 East to join I-76 East. Continue to Brush. At MM90 turn south on CO 71. That runs into Business I-76 in town and you follow 71 to the E before it turns south going out of town. CO 71 runs straight south thru empty country at 65 mph down to Limon. Sparsely travelled though most traffic are trucks.

At Limon you've bypassed the metro mess and you can decide your route from there. You have I-70 to go east or use US 385 and 287 to continue further SSE. This southern leg isn't interstate but it's at least 65 mph or more and often 4 lanes. Very scenic if you care to imagine herding cows across that country 140 years ago...

In bad weather, stick to the interstates as much as possible and US highways if you can't.

  7. Default Thanks

I appreciate the advice......I have been preparing all I can hahahaha....I am watching the weather now daily....I have 3 routes....one going the Oregon/Cali route in case the roads start to look bad....hahaha
Thanks for the toll information as well......

Default Be aware of possible disruption.

If the weather is OK it's a perfectly good route but you should check conditions, I believe there is a winter storm warning in place around La Sal until Thursday. If it's clear and you decided to go via 191 you could use US491 at Montecello to Shiprock and track across to US550 to Albu to save a bit of time and mileage.(US191 doesn't go direct to Albu) Allow 2 overnight stops to Albu.
