Wow, 25 years- Congratulations! I remember reading your book about the fire and your initial journey. I used your website on our roadtrip from Tucson to Alaska in 1998. Traveling with a laptop, no cell phone, and trying to connect on the road. I was consulting at the time and had to stop in at Fairbanks School District to re-transmit files to a school district in Arizona using common software and connectivity. It wasn’t until I retired in 2013 that I began posting RoadTrip reports as I traveled across the US. Recently I haven’t been as active on the website, my trips have continued, but slowed down. Our trips aren’t geared towards the majority of RTA users. I have managed to visit 402/423 National Park Service sites with no plans to complete visiting all sites as we can’t do them as a RoadTrip! Still traveling with most of my activities shared on Instagram as Srjrranger. Mark & Megan continue to include me as a Contributor, which is appreciated. Great memories and resources over the years, and looking forward to the future!

Thank you! I will miss your event on Saturday, I plan to be hiking a section of the Arizona National Scenic Trail (AZT). Have hiked 200 of the 800+ miles, with a goal of section hiking 400 miles. Not interested in backpacking over 9,000 ft mountain ranges which I would have to do to complete all 800 miles.
I will stop, pause and send my congratulations while hiking!

Pat, the event is Sunday, not Saturday, if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the clarification. Still hoping to be out on the trail on Sunday, but rain is forecasted. I may be joining the celebration.

Default What a long, strange trip it's been!

Greetings, all! In many ways, it's hard to believe that 25 years have slipped by since Mark and I watched roadtripamerica.com "go live" on a monitor in an office in Pasadena, California. It felt important enough that we celebrated with a cake, but we never could have predicted what the next quarter-century would bring. It did feel exciting, though. I felt like I always do at the beginning of a road trip. I might have plans, and even an itinerary, but the thrill comes from knowing, even before the rubber hits the road, that it'll be the unexpected and unplanned things that will make the journey an adventure.

Thank you all for joining that adventure. I'm looking forward to sharing stories on Sunday. It was serendipitous that RoadTrip America was born on Valentine's Day, but it's one of my favorite coincidences.

We have thought about hosting a Zoom call where anyone could join in and share some roadtripping tall tales. The tricky part is finding a time that works in North America, Australia and Europe at the same time.

Anyone have suggestions or even an interest in talking to your fellow road trippers on the 14th of February?

Perhaps, we'll just post messages here.

    I will go first....
I'll be joining, circumstances (and wife) permitting.
