Hi,
I'm not really familiar with that area but I went to Scottsbluff National Monument and I think it might be a great place for a family : nice sceneries, very light hikes. There are a lot of nice little "cowboys" towns on Highway 26 from Ogallala to Scottsbluff and great places also.
