    Default Change of venue

Here's a place that's a little different. A pretty little canyon, with interesting rock formations:

If you look closely, you might spy something unusual as you walk upstream:

Wait a minute. That can't possibly be natural. Let's take a closer look:

Somebody seems to have gone to quite a lot of trouble here. I wonder why? And...

    Where am I?

I found it by google so I'll give others a chance first before I answer.

Time to take my cat for a walk....be back later.

  3. Default Where should I be!

So instead of Where Am I, this is Where Should I Be!

Sadly we had a trip planned starting on May 25th but it was cancelled because of Covid-19. Tomorrow we would have been at our first major destination. On the bright side, we have been here before so these are my pictures.

    Where Should I Be!

Bonus points for the name of the street I'm on in the first picture and the name of the park in the next two pictures.

I didn't quite Ketch that. I--wait--Kan you repeat the question? Is this in Alaska? And is that a Creek below that Street? And isn't that (oh, what the heck) Potlatch Park?

What a shame that your trip was cancelled! Was it an Alaska cruise with all the bells, whistles, and buffets?

Yes Rick was correct, DH & I were suppose to be in Ketchikan, Alaska today on a 14 day cruise. Yes the first picture is of Creek Street but the other two pictures were taken at Totem Bight State Historical Park and the last picture is of the Clan House. It looks like Potlatch Totem Park & Museum is right next door but we've never been to that one.

Holland America had a great 14 day itinerary round trip out of Seattle that we have done twice before but this year they changed some of the itinerary and we were excited to see the new ports and other scenic cruising areas. This year it was round trip out of Vancouver, BC so when Canada closed their cruise ports early this year until July 1st, we knew our June 1st sail date would be canceled. We waited for the cruise line to cancel us to get the full refund and now we're just waiting for our money to be put back on our credit card. The other ports or cruise only areas this year were to Tracy Arm cruising, Haines, Icy Strait Point, Inian Islands, Anchorage, Homer, Valdez, Hubbard Glacier cruising, Juneau, & Misty Fjords cruising.

Correct again on all the bells & whistles, but we usually don't do the buffets unless we are really late getting back from a tour and missed dinner in the dining room. We had booked early so we chose a really great cabin location. The ship we were on did not have aft cabins but the last cabin on both sides had a double size balcony and it went to the aft of the ship so we would have some wonderful views! We were really excited about that cabin. We also had a lot of on board credit so we planned on dining in the upscale dining room several times. Last night would have been the Gala night with lobster on the menu and then later that night the Captain's Champagne toast...or what I call...free champagne night! ;)

Not that I'd cruise this year with Covid 19, but it's well out of our hands at this point. Canada has closed all cruise ports until the end of October so ALL Alaska cruises will have to be canceled. Oh...well...maybe next year or the year after that.

Well, since Utahtea already let the 'Cat' out of the bag, allow me to introduce the Catwalk National Recreation Trail. This is one of those places that comes along every now and again, usually right about the time when you thought you'd seen everything!

The Catwalk is exactly that, a metal walkway with stairs and a handrail, bolted to the side of a cliff, about 20 feet above a stream. There are hiking trails (with and without the catwalk), picnic areas, and a little bit of history: the original catwalk was made of wood, part of a mining operation at the mouth of the canyon. The wooden catwalk was washed away in a flood, so it was rebuilt, and washed away again, (rinse, and repeat), until they finally made it strong enough to withstand even the most powerful flood. By then, of course, the mine had shut down, so now the catwalk is used only by hikers. In the rainy season, when the stream is flowing at maximum capacity, it's quite a thrill, with rushing water below your feet, and cliffs soaring 200 feet above your head.

The Catwalk is part of Scenic Side Trip #3, a long but beautiful alternative to I-10 between Lordsburg, NM and Wilcox, AZ.

Where am I? I think the only members that have been there are Mark and Lifey.

Looks to me like Great Falls, Montana and if I'm right....I've been! Geeze....I'd have to go look up what year that was...but it was when we had our travel trailer so it's been a LONG time.

Edited to add date when we were there: July 13, 1986 (I keep good records!) I remember that we hardly ever ate out on our trips way back then because we really couldn't afford it but we were really tired and it was getting late so we went out to Chinese. Not only was the service some of the worst we have ever had but a can of Chun King would have been better!
