    Default A clue...

No takers? I reckon that set of photos was a bit too obscure for an easy ID, so I'll throw in a clue that will narrow down the highway choices considerably. Note that the picture was taken at 7:38 AM on December 14th, 2014, and it would be the 2nd photo in this sequence. (The time of day is part of the clue):

I'm probably way off base, but I'm going to guess Chiracahua Peak, you're somewhere along US-191, and that bakery is somewhere along there. Southern Arizona, maybe.

Certainly needed that extra clue ! The bakery is in the town of Duncan AZ which is along US70. Mountain? Not sure but could be Mt Graham?

    Default Another one

    Donna:

It's southern Arizona, but it's not US-191, or Chiricahua Peak.

    Dave:

You've aced it once again! That set of pictures was a part of Scenic Side Trip 4, which follows US 70 from Lordsburg, NM to Globe, AZ through the tiny town of Duncan. The peak is 10,700 foot Mount Graham, one of southern Arizona's "sky islands," freshly dusted with snow on that particular morning, and the crop you see growing in the other picture is cotton, which is still a mainstay of the economy in that part of the state.

    Now let's try another one:

See if you can identify the highway in the first two photos. Hint: first you'll have to identify the town in the 4th photo!

That looks like Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico in the 4th picture but I don’t remember the highway number. It is south of I 40 and for years I had wanted to visit. We finally made it up there a few years ago and after the tour we took the path back down from the Pueblo.

Default Ding ding ding! Another winner!

Utahtea, you know your pueblos! The town in the photo is the Sky City of Acoma, perched on its own little mesa, 365 feet above the surrounding terrain. The road is Indian Route 38, which hooks into a short remnant of old Route 66 that runs parallel to I-40, just east of Grants, NM. It's pretty great that you guys took the tour. Not that many people even know about this place, despite the fact that it's just a short detour off the Interstate. Scenic Side Trip #18 runs through the area, and takes in half a dozen points of interest that are all pretty cool.

Next up: Name that hill in picture #1. Hint: there's a road most of the way to the top. Picture #2 is the view from the parking lot. Picture #3 is the parking lot as seen from (huff, puff) the trail to the summit.

I had a guess but waited a while for two reasons.

    1. I wanted d to give someone else a chance.

    2. I’m not sure of my answer.

My first thought was Sunset Crater, AZ but I think I’m wrong.
