Default Tips? Traveling via RV from Groveport OH to Woodinville WA

    Hello Community!

I am looking to bring my coach back from Groveport OH to Woodinville WA. (just outside of Seattle) I will be driving my motorhome, 40' class A diesel pusher, nothing in tow.

I would like to travel on or around February 15th. While we cannot predict the future, assuming weather is "normal" for this time, is this a reasonable trip to be made at this time in regards to road conditions? I prefer not to chain it up. Am I simply better off waiting another month?

    What is my best route?

What areas would be of highest concern?

What are my best resources to follow for road conditions?

    Any other advice / tips?

    Thank you!

    Welcome to RTA!

It's a tough call. There really isn't any way to tell if waiting a month would be better or not. Even in March, there is a good chance for snowy weather somewhere along the route. Probably the best advice would be to have plenty of extra time available, and if the weather gets bad just get off the road and wait it out. You will be traveling west, so anything you encounter should blow over fairly quickly.

In my opinion, the "best" route would be I-70 to I-74 to I-80 to I-680 to I-29 to I-90. Use the I-465 south bypass around Indy or take I-465 north to I-865 to I-65 north to IN-32 west.

Safetravelusa.com has links to each state's road condition reports.

You should probably keep the RV winterized, even in March.

Interstates are a priority to keep clear and traffic on the move and are not usually shut down for too long if they do, so the most important thing is having the time needed available, whatever that may be. I would think of 5 days as being the bare minimum, so if you allow a week to give some 'wiggle' room you should be OK. If you have more time available then you can start to consider sight seeing. As mentioned above, delaying for a month doesn't guarantee you won't have the risk of seeing poor weather either.

I found the WASE application to be very handy on long trips. It can alert you to traffic conditions ahead and show you the extent of any backups.
