By the time you've towed a few times, and parked in the pull-through lanes of a rest area with the truck, you'll be a lot more comfortable being around the trucks! A couple of tips:

    * When you're learning to tow, try to find a large empty parking lot to practice in. For instance, a large store that's gone out of business, a church that isn't having mid-week activities.

    * When you park in a pull-through at the rest area, make sure that the back of your rig is near the back end of the parking spot. That way, a trucker doesn't think that spot's empty and try to park where you are! Same deal at a truck stop, if you park with the truckers, make sure that they can see you.

    * Always know how you are going to get out, before you enter someplace. I will never, ever forget going into a rest area along a 2-lane highway in Canada, towing a 27' 5th wheel, and discovering that the only way out was to BACK out onto the shoulder of the highway. We were petrified!!!

Good advice! Thanks, Donna. Some of this I learned the hard way while driving my 26’ motorhome.

Default Like washing a hi-top van at the truck wash.

You'll find those who work in these places love to see something other than another truck. It is the same everytime I have my hi-top van washed. Feels a little intimidating lined up with all the large trucks.

Haha! Know that feeling! My motorhome has been in a wash line with trucks, too!
