Buffalo to Toronto in December, should I be worried?

I currently drive a 2011 Dodge Caliber with roughly 46,500 miles on it. Next weekend I’m supposed to drive to Toronto from Buffalo to go to a concert. Technically, I’d be starting from my college town outside of Buffalo, so round trip I’d be driving around 285 miles. My parents have me convinced that something will happen and I’m nervous.

I got my oil changed and tires rotated 6 days ago, so that’s all taken care of. Additionally, I told my friends who are riding with me that if the weather is a mess we won’t be able to go because I refuse to cross the border in a storm.

Do you think I should have concerns? My knowledge of cars is limited and I’m just worried.

I really think you have absolutely nothing to worry about. You're only talking about a trip that's about 2 hours each way, so you'll know exactly what the weather will look like before you leave. You've already decided that if the weather is bad you're not going to go at all, so you're covered there.

Even in the absolute worst case where you have a major breakdown or get into some kind of accident or have some other completely unforseen emergency, you'll only be 2 hours from your home where presumably you'd have friends or family come to help.

Other than needing your passport to cross the border, this really is no different than going to Erie or Syracuse for the weekend.
