If they open it on schedule at 9 AM on May 21, it looks like I'll win the dcTPP (Darn Close -- Tioga Pass Prognosticator) as I'm less than 24 hours off.

My phone predicts snow in Mammoth on Monday so it sounds like I have to hope for enough of it to prevent them from opening Tioga, but not enough to keep it closed for more than a day.

I found this website when Googling to find out when Tioga may open as I was planning a trip to Mammoth before Memorial Day and the last few times I've done it in May, I've had to return via Sonora Pass or Monitor and Carson Passes. I've moved back my planned trip by a day this year since making my prediction. I now want to return on Tues. although could delay until Wed.

Default They say it will, but..........

Yosemite state it will open so seem confident. I actually thought it would have opened by the middle of this week after they had stated that it will not open the previous weekend, the 13th/14th May. (I read it as they had hoped it would be) There was a mixed bag in the weather forecast of rain and snow showers along with thunderstorms this week, so I wondered if it was precautionary to keep it closed. (there was a lack of any further info.) However the risk of Thunderstorms and showers remain Monday through Tuesday with overnight temps dropping below freezing, so I guess it's a case of wait and see.

Default Sheriff Dave has the official "call"

Yeah, they are being very quiet this year with the opening date. All of the local snow in the Las Vegas area is just about gone.

Anyone else close this year Sheriff Dave?

    Default A close run in.

Anyone else close this year Sheriff Dave?
Unless there is a significant delay it looks as though tseeb is going to be closest and become a Dctpp at their first attempt. As my prediction of May 15th past by I thought Midwest Michael was clear favourite (May 18th) and they would have it open before this weekend but it was not to be.

    Default Confirmation.

It has been officially confirmed on the Yosemite Website that the Tioga Pass opened this morning as scheduled. We don't have a new Champ this contest but we did see member tseeb go very close with their prediction of May 22nd @ 8:30am. So you get the title of the current Dctpp (Darn close tioga pass prognosticator) on your very first attempt.

So to confirm, Tioga Pass opened to vehicles on May 21st 2018 at 9am. I hope many of you get to enjoy this amazing drive during your Roadtrip travels. Keep an eye out for the next contest when we will try and predict when it will close for winter 2018.

I'll go with the official time as it gets me within 24 hours. But, and as a new guy I'm not trying to start a fight with the Sheriff, I think it opened earlier. I left So Tahoe well before 5 AM and after getting gas in Minden, it was probably close to 5:30 AM when I passed lighted-changeable sign saying Tioga was open and I think CAL DOT reported the same when I checked at that time. There was a little new (wet) snow in Mammoth.

I should be going over Tioga tomorrow in early afternoon. I hope it's still open as there has been a lot of r--n in town this evening, not what you want when skiing.

I also plan to buy my Senior National Parks pass tomorrow at Tioga Pass. I missed being old enough went price went up by about 10 days in late August last year.

    Default Thanks for the Intel.

You can't beat local Intel so Thanks for sharing but all I can do is go by the latest info available. Of course the most important part is the day it opened which is always double checked and the time is a bit of added fun with the chance to win a bonus prize. The good news is you're still the new Dctpp ! HaHa.

I hope you get to drive it tomorrow and would really like it if you could post on this thread your experience and perhaps a couple of photos.

    Congratulations to our newest DCTPP!

And yes, please grab some photos -- it's sort of magical being one of the first vehicles over the pass each spring.

When does Tioga Pass usually close again? Havn't started working out the how's and do's and questions yet but probably be looking at September. Tioga Pass in our book is one of the best drives we have been on. Better than eating ice cream.
