    Default 48-State Trip - Summer 2018

    Hello fellow RoadTrippers!

I've been a lurker on these forums for a few years now, so I thought it was time to say Hi!

My fiancee and I are from Basingstoke in the UK. We have done a number of roadtrips around Florida and the South West in the past, but for what must be a couple of years now we have been planning the mother of all road trips - a 6-month, 48-state trip!

I thought others might be interested in our planning thus far. If so, head over to our blog - where you'll find some details on how far we've got. We plan to update this between now and our departure in May 2018, and throughout the trip.

Feel free to leave us any comments, suggestions or wisdom!

All the best from the UK,
    Lee & Sam

    Default welcome to a community

    Welcome to the RTA Forum!

We're glad you decided to say hi, and we'd love to hear more about your trip. However, it is extremely poor form to come into a community like this just to promote your blog and/or expect people to visit your blog before they can learn anything about your plans. That's one of the exact reasons that new members to this forum are not allowed to post off-site links.

So, while we'd love to hear more about you and your trip and potentially share some wisdom, but you're going to have to share the details of your plans here.

I will say, even without knowing the details of your plans, do you already have a full tourist visa set up and figured out a transportation plan for a 6-month trip - that is twice as long as allowed under the Visa Waiver Program?

Thanks for getting back to me, Michael.

Really sorry for contravening the etiquette here. I have deliberately created a separate blog for the planning and execution of the trip so I don't spam my other social networks, and want to give those interested one place to go and find info.

I really don't want to cross-post identical content, so won't be posting here. Of course, if RTA readers have specific questions I can quickly answer, I'd be more than happy to contribute and share my experiences.

Regarding the visa, we have already got our B-2 visas. Regarding transportation, we considered a few options incluing RV hire and purchase/sell of a vehicle, but the current plan is for long-term hire of a Jeep from one of the big companies (like Hertz, with their 28+ long-term hire schemes).

    Apologies once again.

That's quite easy. All you need to do is post a link on your blog to this site where you can record all your plans as well as the experience of the trip itself. I venture to say, that more people will benefit from your experiences, than your blog alone. Lots of planning threads and many of the trip reports get thousands of views every month.
