Vancouver, BC to Mesa, AZ - Advice please

I'm hoping to take a solo road trip from Vancouver, BC to Mesa, Arizona via Vegas in the next week. My car has all-season tires. Are there many mountain passes along the route? Will chains be sufficient? Or will I need to purchase winter tires (which I'm trying to avoid).

I will have my 13 year old daughter with me on the way back, and we will drive through California on our return.

Any suggestions of things to check out on either trip would also be appreciated.

The best thing you can do is keep an eye on the weather forecasts and road conditions before and during travel and if at any time it looks like you may need chains then it's time to consider pulling off the road and letting the storm pass and road crews clear up. With that in mind your all season tyres should be just fine if they are in good condition. It's a full 3 days drive in each direction and it's best to have some 'wiggle' room in case of a storm. Anything over that time period you can start thinking about sight seeing detours based on your (and daughters) interests. Once you have worked out how much time you have available and have a couple of route ideas worked out we can help 'fine tune' your trip and offer meaningful suggestions.
