Default Driving from Los Angeles - Newton, IA, Cleveland, OH, Germantown, MD, New York

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I am a businessman from Pakistan and coming to the US for the first time in December 2016. I am a great fan of road trips and have done several in my home country. In general, highways are in good condition here but some parts are quite rough. I have also done some road trips in Europe but they were not longer than a day. So I need of your help and suggestions. Below is the google maps link for my route.

1- Does this route need some alteration so I can see more worth seeing place like Grand Canyon etc.
2- Will be be ice on the roads at any part of my planned trip.
3- What kind of car can I rent from Los Angeles and how much a week?
4- Can I drop off the car in New York?

These are few questions I have at the moment.

    Thanks.

    Default Time and interests.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

1] Yes you would need to alter your route to see the Grand canyon and only the south rim of the National park is open in December.

2] Sorry, nobody can predict the weather this far in advance, but yes it's possible you would see ice and snow. The road crews are very good at keeping main highways clear but you should build in time for delays.

3] Whatever car suits you and your budget, a mid-size sedan is the best combination of budget and comfort. Costs vary so you will need to check out your options on line.

4] It is possible to do one way rentals but usually at extra cost.

You don't say how much time you have, whether or not you are a solo traveller or what your interests are so it's hard to give meaningful suggestions other than to say take a little time researching and studying maps and see what appeals to you and get a few dots on the map, then a route will start to form. As you have specific questions about any part of the trip, just ask.

Your map is the fastest route between LA and NYC, it definitely needs to be altered if you want to see anything except through the car windows. You also would most likely see snow and ice, I-70 through the Rockies is a high elevation and snow area.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I really appreciate that. I have not driven car on ice and after doing some research I don't think it is a good idea to make a road trip in December so I have postponed it. By the way I was planning to travel alone.

Thank you once again for your time and kindness. I will get in touch you next time.
