  1. Default October trip - deciding between two options (open to other suggestions)

    Hi

I would like to do a 3 weeks trip in the coming October with my wife.
I've already had trips in the more popular routes: California, entire east coast, Seattle to Yellowstone, Utah
I prefer a circular route (to reduce renting cost), but not mandatory.
So far I came up with 2 options:
    1. Houston to Vegas and back - covering landmarks in TX, NM, and of course Vegas (I like poker!)
    2. Houston to Florida and back - covering Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, and Florida (Orlando, Miami, Key West)

What do you think about those options? Which one is preferred?
Are there any other suggestions (the trip is in October and we don't want it to be too cold).

    Thanks!

    Default Apples or Oranges.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

This really is a question that only you can answer, there are no bad choices. I would say it's a case of going over the maps and do a little research around the site and see which appeals to the most for this next trip and keep the other for a future one. October is a wonderful time of year to travel so you will have a lot of fun no matter what. I even love Colorado this time of year, but it could be too cold for you and the weather is unpredictable so far out.

I understand it's a matter of taste, I just to get other people's opinion - what would you prefer?

    Default Study some good maps.

Why not sit down with a good road atlas, and see what there is in all those places, and in places you have not yet considered.

That's how I would go about it, or go to an area you have just read or learned about, and go check it out. I can't think of a single State whoich does not have a three week trip with things to interest me. Guess it all depends on your and your wife's interests.

OK. I'll make the decision for you! Head for Key West. This option is full of sights you just won't see anywhere else.

On the way you'll hit historic New Orleans which is interesting enough to spend a day or two.

Then head down the Atlantic coast to Key west. Lots of places to visit, all along the waterfront. If you have tons of money, detour toward Orlando and spend a week at all the tourist parks. Otherwise visit Cape Kennedy and maybe see a rocket launch. Once to Key West, take the ferry to Dry Tortugas National Park, which is 70 miles out to sea! You will tour historic Fort Jefferson and even have a chance for fantastic snorkeling right off the beach.

Heading home, visit the Everglades and continue up the gulf coast. Hit some of the State Parks that were once private tourist attractions such as Weekie Watchee and Homosassa Springs.

Also, take in a snorkeling trip while in the keys. A different experience would be snorkeling in the crystal clear springs at many Florida State Parks. There are also great canoeing and kayaking opportunities both in the keys and Everglades

On second thought, forget New Orleans! You won't have enough time to do Florida justice with only 3 weeks.

Now, if that appeals to you, answer back and I'm sure others will chime in with other great suggestions for a grand loop of Florida!

Default The many attractions of FL.

If travelingman's suggestion appeals to you, I suggest you get a good detailed map of FL and see just how much there is to see. From the many scenic routes though small and quaint towns, to the national and state parks, wildlife preserves and the Keys, and lots more in between.

That is besides the theme parks, Space Coast and beaches.
