Ok, thanks Donna. I only said Ash Fork cos that was the first town I saw when zoomed in map there lol not the money reason. Williams is defo better, will look there.

I forgot to mention that provided estimated journey time is with possible meal stops, taking photos etc.

If your budget can stand it, I'd stay in Tusayan. It's right at the south entrance to the GC.

In the middle of the day, you need to be on the road from SB to LAX by noon.

Just one more thing, it may sound funny to you...but it is rare for us europeans and expensive - shooting, can anyone recommend any place around my way that I can have some fun playing with guns?

I'd guess Las Vegas would be your best best. Just do a search for Gun Range. I don't have any experience with any of them myself, but I know there are plenty of places out there for both conventional guns, as well as more exotic machine guns and the like.

Don't tell me you are still struggling to put this trip together without a decent map? Or were you just zooming in without getting out the map?

Just tried to set all up in general to get a big picture, detailed places will come along as I start booking nights in hotels and B&Bs. There are only 3 main places for me, LA, LV and SF everything else will vary. Paper map for me will only come as a backup to check and confirm everything.

I wouldnt stress to much about booking place's to stay at that time of the year. On two different trips starting beginning of May, we booked the first night as we had to. After that we just wandered into a place and asked if they had a room. Only once we came undone when we arrived in a small town that had some big event on. We moved on to next town. Only time that happened in a total of 10 weeks travel over two trips. We did also book Las Vegas as the price's there change a lot depending on what's on. Last trip we detoured around looking at other stuff and then came back to get the lower price's. Saved $100 a night at the Flamingo right in the middle of the strip. Searched the price's on line over a couple of weeks that we were going to be in that area.

Need your advice again on what should I do, obviously SF supposed to be a next stop in my road trip plan however I did not realise it to be that expensive. So I was going to leave Groveland in the morning 1st of May heading to SF and staying there until 4th then spend another night on the way to LA. Now because we gona have a car any accommodation in SF seams to be expensive ($150-200/night) providing a car park. Anyone here could suggest anything please? Like going somewhere else for example instead and just spend a day in SF seeing the town etc.? Or Finding a place to stay outside SF and then keep travelling there by car or public transport?

You can take a look at various options using the Road trip Motels link to the right of the page where you can search from cheapest and select free parking in the search options. There was some [relatively] reasonable priced Motels in Lombard/Gough area which is not far from the Piers and transport into the city. Another option would be to find a cheaper airport hotel with free shuttle to the airport and use the BART system to get Downtown.

Thank you! However if I would decide to spend a day in SF instead of 3 and another 2 somewhere around what and where could you suggest please? After that I would be heading towards LA to fly back to UK.
