Honeymoon Road Trip from Kansas to Northeast United States June 2016

Hello all,
I am planning a honeymoon road trip for my fiance and myself in June 2016 instead of flying to one location. We are leaving Kansas City, KS and heading to Northeast United States. I lived in CT for over 20 years and going back to see family as well. I am looking for suggestions of places to go to so this trip will be special, taking 12 days for the trip. I am planning on going to St Louis Arch MO, Hershey PA, Groton CT, Waverly RI (Beach Hotel), Newport Beach RI, Cape Cod MA, Salem MA, Portland ME, White Mountains NH, Lincoln VT, Lake George NY, Niagra Falls NY, Cedar Point OH and then Back home to KS. Going to get a AAA membership to help plan the trip as well. Renting a car / small SUV for the trip, I am a veteran, planning on a budget of $2000 for trip. Any suggestions of things to see or do would be great including B&B's or other valued places to stay at.

Just be aware that the big museum underneath the Arch in St Louis, the Museum of Westward Expansion, is closed through 2017, I believe. They are doing a major renovation. You MUST have Arch tickets, purchased ahead of time, in order to go up in the Arch these days, rather than buy them on site and wait.

While you asked for ideas for things to see and do, I think you might already have quite a bit more than you have time for.

You say you have 12 days for this trip, and you listed 13 places you want to visit. Now, I imagine you weren't planning to spend a full day at each of them, but you also have to factor in your drive time. It's 1400 miles just to get from KC to RI, and when you add in your other spots in Maine and Vermont, you're looking at a round trip of around 3300 miles. That works out to at least 6 full days of driving, just to cover the miles. That only leaves 6 days to visit all the places you mentioned, and visit family, and have time for a little "honeymooning" on top of it all.

It's always good to start by thinking big, but as you enter the next step of your planning, I think you need to work out just how rushed you want this trip to be, and probably shaving out a few places that aren't as important.
