Swedes in US, Which road/way is the best for us?

We are from sweden and dont have any idea which road is the best for us.
We are looking for a route that have alot too see among the way, landscape, cool things. We want to se the US as we go by it.

We want to see as much as posseble, we will start in New York City and head towards California.

we do not know much, the I-80 Seems popular, but is it the best?

And also all the cities, which one is worth stop and see?

I'm sorry, but you're asking a question that can't possibly be answered right now.

There are thousands of roads and millions of places you could visit on a trip that goes from NY to California. You certainly don't have to stick to just one specific highway number. You also don't have to limit your stops to cities, as the US is filled with amazing natural wonders you won't find anywhere else on earth.

At this point of your planning, you should focus on the things you want to see and do. Read as much as you can, because no one can answer that question for you.

Once you have a better idea of what you want to see, where you want to go, and what you hope to get out of this trip, then others will be in a position to start helping you put things together and offer additional ideas for places you might want to visit.

A couple of questions for you to think about....

First, how long do you have for the trip? A week? Four weeks? Decide how much of that time you want to spend on the road, and how much time you need to stay in one place and actually see something.

Do you have a map? A paper map, not the kind you see on a 5” screen (GPS or your phone) or a 15” screen (your computer). Since you are planning a multi-state trip, a USA map, regional map, or a road atlas of the US will do for starters. Take a pencil, some sticky notes, or other way to mark up the map: what do you want to see? What looks interesting? After a few marks, you'll see a route starting to form.

Yes i know! its so much, for me who dont even know where to begin its so much, but ill try, thanks for quick answer!

Like, for me who is a first time US visitor, And im use to sweden ( 2 roads trhou the country) its very confusing.. haha its so many roads everywhere!

We plan being on the road for 2-3 weeks, The main Problem for us is which cities and places are like the top cities to stop in, and after that make up a route.
For example, i have no idea if going to Nashville or chicago is best, and i know this is all induvidual but all advice will ahve influence.

We only have planned to stop in Colorado, like wisit some cool national-park there, but i bet their is alot of places to see on the way to colorado.

I will get a map soon as posseble! its so much, i dont know where to start ( exept picking up the car at JFK)...

Michael suggested doing some looking around to see what interests you, and I suggested a map. You can use the map to see what's between NY and CA, such as Rocky Mountain National Park in CO, then look on the Internet to see if it's something that you'd like to visit. Use Google or your favorite search engine to find the official sites.

The US has an extensive national park system, with national parks, national monuments, national historic battlefields, and so much more under the care of the Dept of the Interior. If it's scenic places you seek, look at the parks and monuments. If you love history, check out the national historic places and battlefields.

Every city in the US has museums of all types. If you have an interest, some city will have a museum dedicated to it. We have museums for rock music, country music, musical instruments, baseball and football fans, glassware, art, ancient history, modern history, old route 66, old cars, with a book focus, and more. If you are an animal lover, almost every city has a zoo, with some zoos being more extensive than others.

If you have a favorite television show or two, or a movie, from the US, there are probably places identified with it. (For instance, Field of Dreams has a site in Iowa. Dallas has Southfork Ranch, near Dallas.) I know of people who have planned an entire vacation around these types of places.

Here is a paragraph which is perfect to get you started....

Start with maps. Not GPS, not software, not Google, but real honest-to-god paper maps that show you your entire route, that you can mark up (and erase), that you can stick pins in, and that show something about the land you'll be driving through. Those are your essential tool in any RoadTrip planning process. Start by marking all the places you know you want to visit. Then connect the dots. Then look for more places of interest and scenic routes along the lines connecting the dots. Repeat until you've got as many sites and roads as you think you want.
