Roadtrip from NY to Philadelphia to DC

Hello all,

We are a family of 5 adults looking to go on a road trip from New York, stopping in Philadephia for 2 days and then continuing on to DC for another 2 days. We will be renting a car from NY.

Does anyone have any suggestions on hotels or places to stay in DC, with close proximity to the washington monument, the white house and all other museums etc.? Parking seems to be really expensive in that area and thats whats putting me off in most of the hotels. So I am trying to find one thats close to Center City and also has free, or a not so expensive, parking.

Philadelphia also has expensive parking but we got the Philly overnight package that provides two nights in a hotel plus free parking.

Welcome to the Great American Roadtrip Forum.

If this is a one way trip and you are focusing on going to those three cities, I would pick up a rental when you have finished your time in NYC, and turn in the car on your arrival in DC. Both NYC and DC have excellent public transport which will take you to all the sites, and parking is very expensive wherever you go.

By the way, I'd check the cost of renting a car in NJ against renting in NY. I believe it is quite a bit cheaper.
