  1. Default SF - Crater Lake - Mt Shasta - lassen volcanic park 6 nights?

We are planning a 7 day 6 night road trip from SF. I was only able to book one night at the crater lodge the first night. Is one night enough? Should we stay an extra night in the area? We would also like to go to mount shasta and lassen volcanic Park. How many nights in each place? Do we still have time to go to the redwood national forest? I don't want to feel hurried. Any recommendations on what to do and where to stay would be appreciated. We like great views,1-2.5 mile hikes (we have w a five year old) and biking/kayaking (not a necessity).

Thank you so much for your help!

    Default A loop.

Hello and welcome to the RTA forums !

It's going to be more difficult trying to do Lassen/Shasta and the Redwoods if you head direct to Crater Lake, although not impossible. If you can sort your lodgings out to suit, you should head from SF to Lassen and then go to Crater Lake via Mt Shasta and then on the way home head towards Grants Pass and Crescent City and south, which gives you the advantage of having the Ocean on your side of the road, to Redwood NP. After Eureka you will come to Humboltd State park and the lovely 'Avenue of the Giants' drive before heading over the GG bridge to SF.

Exactly when are you taking this trip? Being that you posted in the Spring forum, the roads at Crater Lake and Lassen probably won't be open yet and your options for enjoying the parks will be very limited.

At Crater Lake, the north entrance and the west rim drive historically opens in late May and the east rim drive historically opens in late June. The Lassen Loop historically opens anywhere from late May to early July.

@glc. We are leaving June 4th for 6 nights.

@southwest Dave. Unfortunately, our dates are not flexible and the only room available at Crater Lodge (where we want to stay if we go there) is the first night so we have to do crater lake first. Given that, what would you recommend if Crater Lake has to be our first destination. We are open to exploring Oregon instead of redwoods, if redwoods seem impractical logistics wise. We have camped in Eureka, Humboldt State park and Ave of the Giants. So, I am okay of we can't get to that as well.
