Do you know if we can easily practice the NM 126 and NM4 between Santa Fe and Cuba with a chevy Equinox (or similar)?

Looks like a nice ride but I don't know how the road looks like !

NM-4 is a good paved road for its whole length, but NM-126 is not, it's a dirt road for much of its length. You would probably violate your rental car contract if you use it, and it frequently gets muddy and impassible without 4 wheel drive.

Wow ! Didn't knew that dirt roads were not allowed for rental cars... I'll avoid NM - 126 then. But I may go, anyway, to the monument valley...

A good alternative would be:

From Santa Fe, take US Hwy. 285 north to Española
US Hwy. 84 to Abiquiu Lake
NM Hwy. 96 west to US Hwy. 550

This is a good scenic route that takes you around the northern edge of the Jemez Mtns. to a point a few miles north of Cuba, NM. From there you would continue northwest on US Hwy. 550 toward the Four Corners and Monument Valley.

If you do, book a Jeep tour, don't drive your rental back on the dirt road.
