Buying a van in Central or South America.

I want to buy a reliable full size van and travel Central and South America. Which country would be my best bet to get a reliable van with out spending too much money? Or would it just be safer to buy a van in the US?

Your question is a bit beyond the typical scope of this forum. I will say the I belive it depends upon where you currently live and what you plan to do with it. If you are hoping to bring it to the US, you could have major problems importing a car from any foreign country. In fact, you will likely have problems if you try to sell or get rid of a van in any country other than where you purchase it. It will also require a fair amount of research to figure out the license and insurance issues in any country you are looking to make this purchase.

I do know that if you buy it here and try to take it through Mexico, you have to post a substantial bond at the border to make sure you take it out of Mexico.
