Driving from Philly to Dallas in a few weeks...What should I stop to see?

Hi all! My best friend and I will be driving from Philly to Dallas in a few weeks. Does anyone that is familiar with the route (I know there are a few) have any suggestions on what to stop and do and see? I'd love to see some nice scenery, eat at some must have restaurants, and do some site-seeing. I'd love your feedback!

...on how much time you have and what your interests are, you could take any of a number of routes, but the one I'd suggest is to take the PA Turnpike west to Harrisburg and there get on I-81 south. Take that all the way down to Knoxville and then use I-40 over to Nashville. Next up is a treat, the Natchez Trace Parkway to Jackson MS and I-20 west to Dallas. That's a shade longer (~150 miles) than the most direct/fastest route but would be a lot more relaxing and scenic.

Sites worth visiting along the way, depending on what you like and how long you have for the journey, include Gettysburg, Shenandoah National Park, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, Great Smokey Mountains National Park, the Grand Ole Opry, Elvis' Birthplace, the Bonnie and Clyde ambush site, and Vicksburg National Battlefield

The suggestions on what to stop and see and do really depend upon your interests. The first place I'd recommend you look is the RTA Map Center, which will plot unique stops that are right along the way. There really are quite a few options, depending upon what route you're looking to take, and how much time you have available.

Being that you mentioned scenery, certainly one option would be to follow all or part of the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way down to Smokey Mountain National Park. You could also consider taking a portion of Natchez Trace Parkway. There are also several other National Parks that could be included, again, depending upon the route you choose to take and your interests.
