Fall Trip from Phoenix to Sedona to Las Vegas Question

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can tell me if it makes sense to try to fly into Phoenix, rent a car, spend several days in Sedona then drive to Las Vegas for a couple days then return to Phoenix for the last couple of days. Can do this over 7 days.
I'm trying to fly in and out of Phoenix as the one way rental car charges would be over $1000 dollars if I pick up in Phoenix and drop in Las Vegas.

Such Fly-n-Drive RoadTrips are a staple of many travelers' arsenal, including my own. I am also a big fan of 'loop' trips for precisely the reasons you cite: lower airfares and car rental costs. The particular rout3e you list is fairly close to home for me and I have done pretty much each part of it at one time or another. Besides and/or in addition to the places you list, other venues you might want to check out for inclusion in your trip would include the Grand Canyon (of course), the town of Jerome, Tuzigoot National Monument, Oak Creek Canyon, a couple of sites in Flagstaff such as the Museum of Northern Arizona and Lowell Observatory, a couple of scenic parks near Las Vegas: the Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and the quirky town of Oatman.

Check airfares and rentals in LV, that may even be cheaper to do a loop out of LV.
