We are going to be traveling a lot of the back roads in Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and Utah. Were is a good source to find out where the current forest fires are located. We do not want to be driving in or into those areas. Thanks

I'm not sure of any centralized system that's keeping track of every wildfire going on at the time in the country, as it is usually a state by state thing. Keep in mind, that even large fires are often burning in remote areas and the impact on travel frequently is relatively minimum.

If there is a fire that is impacting travel, each state's road conditions website will be a good spot to find out where roads are closed and what detours you need to consider. Here's a list of all those websites.

Actually, there are some very good resources for checking on wildfires in USA and Canada. The first one is produced by Bill Gabbert and is called Wildfire Today

The Federal Incident Reporting site is more-or-less up-to-date -- you can search by states to see if there are any incidents near where you might be driving. The pull-down menu to search by states is in the upper right corner of the page.
