NYC to Toronto

Hi,

I am very new to this forum, so please, be patient with me ;)

I would like to make a car trip from NYC to Toronto in 21th november afternoon and be back in NYC 25th on the evening.
The main goal is to collect friends from Toronto (24th evening), thatswhy I would like to visit Niagarafalls on my way back. We will take a hotel 24th/25th Niagara. 25th probably a straight route to NYC.

I will leave NYC on 21th around 4pm. Where to drive and stay?
I appreciate also trip around Canada, never been there. But also will love to see something in NY/USA.

Thank you for any advice.

(We are young couple- if that makes any difference)

It's actually a bit unfortunate that you're going to be in such a rush on the way back because at nearly 425 miles, plus the time to explore the Falls, plus the border crossing, a one day drive doesn't really leave too much time for the many sights between the Falls and NYC. Still it's a scenic drive, particularly is you can get off the Thruway and come down through the Finger Lakes and Poconos.

But f you have time on the way up, and want to see a bit more of Canada than the industrial cities around the western end of Lake Ontario and the Falls (which you'll see anyway on your return trip), then I'd suggest that you go up to Toronto via the Hudson River Valley and Adirondacks to the Thousand Islands area at the head of the St. Lawrence River and then follow the northern coast of the lake to Toronto. There's a lot of history concerning both the United States and Canada on that route, as well as some very scenic drives, great hikes, and enjoyable small towns. If you go that way, you'd be looking at spending your first night somewhere between Albany and Lake George depending on what time you get out of the city and how many stops you make on that first day.
