How about the North Carolina Outer Banks? You would take a ferry from Cedar Island to Ocracoke, then another ferry to Hatteras, then drive up to the Norfolk area. From there, you could take the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel to the Eastern Shore and see Assateague/Chincoteague, or head inland and see Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg.
