Default Doing our first rd trip from dallas to Santa Fe to Colorado Springs...have no clue...

Hello! I will be an empty nester as of Aug 25, my husband works in the HVAC business and we can't travel until around Oct 11-20, thats the plan anyway. We want to do a road trip from Dallas, to Santa Fe, To Colorado Springs. We would like to camp some (tent camping) and motel some. I have no clue what to do... everything seems very overwhelming. I just need some suggestions, guidelines, etc. Can we just go or do I need to plan everything out carefully and make reservations etc? Would REALLY appreciate some help.

    Default Welcome!

Welcome to the RoadTrip America Forum!

You certainly could just head out there and see what you find. If you are planning on camping in certain areas of your trip, you might want to check for campgrounds in the area ahead of time and see if they are open or not. That time of year means closed campgrounds in many areas. That's not to say you'd be out of luck, but open campgrounds may be harder to find.

As far as hotels go, you should be able to find a place to stay along your route without too much difficulty.

If you make reservations, that means you will have to be in a certain place on a certain day. Not making reservations means that you can wander around if you want to, and if you see an interesting place along the way, you can explore it more. It really comes down to what your comfort level is with not making reservations.

Are there any specific places you are expecting to go to along the way?
