Looks to me like 57 doesn't get you back to I-5 till you are south of Disneyland - what about taking 605 off 210? My mapping software says that will save you 12 miles.
Does anybody know anything about Hwy 605 as opposed to 57? I'll look it up on the map, but thoughts on the hwy itself? Thanks again all!!!
If you're going to take the 605, then you might as well just take I-5 the whole way. At that point you're just taking another route to enter the heart of the beast.
If you do take CA-57, then you don't need to go all the way down to I-5. You'd exit on Ball Rd or Katella Ave and take surface streets about 2 miles to Disney. (I'm pretty sure that GLC calculated going all the way down to I-5 and back up to come up with the 12 mile difference, if you go this way, the difference vs 605 is less than 5 miles.)
However, I think I would defer to Marks advice here and stick with I-5 the whole way, as he has far more 1st hand knowledge of these specific roads. I've made the trip from north of LA to Anaheim several times, but I always took I-5 or I-405, and haven't driven these alternates myself.
After reviewing the software - toss a coin. I-210/CA-57/Ball Rd is 23 miles longer than I-5 all the way to Ball Rd. If you do take 5, be very mindful of what lane you are in so you don't wind up on I-10 or CA-60 coming out of downtown.
Hello,
I live here in Southern California and work a just a few miles from Disneyland.
If your only fear is traffic, then taking a different route will not really help. You really just need to alter your drive time and arival time to LA. You do not want to be on any freeway within 30 miles of disneyland (or Los Angeles) after 8am on monday, tuesday through friday after 7am. You will have another window between 11am and about 3pm with not so bad traffic. Then your last chance is after 7pm. Plan your trip accordingly to hit LA at these times and you will be fine.
I would not fear the roads unless you have some huge RV or vehicle that your worried about breaking down. But if your really set on avoiding downtown LA, I would agree with the 210 east to the 57 south. (Please consider the time of day in which you plan to take this route!!! It could be another 2-3hrs of traffic if you try to take the 210 east at 4pm on a friday!) Also remember the 57 south does take you south of disneyland and you will need to exit at Ball or Katella because you cannot get on the 5 north from the 57 south.
The roads arent too bad down here... Its really the time of day you plan to be on them! Good luck
