College Road Trip - Maryland to Key West, Fl

Hey all, my girlfriend and I are planning a 10-14 day road trip mid May. We'll be going from Maryland to Key West, Florida. We want to do most of the stops on the way down and then just drive back the last 2-3 days. We'd like to keep it mainly along the coast because we want to spend the majority (4-6 days) of the time down in Florida. Any ideas for stops that we could make on the way down? Thanks!

...how far key West is, even from the rest of Florida. And how long it takes to drive those extra miles when there is only a single two lane road with limited to nonexistent passing opportunities carrying every truck, RV, gawking tourist, and retired snowbird. All that is by way of saying: plan on three days for the drive back, not two, even if you just shoot up I-95 all the way. As for the drive down, with time to relax and poke into some of the nooks and crannies, you should consider some of the possibilities outlined in the coastal route described here. In particular, May is great time to take in the Outer Banks and stroll the streets of towns like Charleston and Savannah and soak up the southern charm.
