I-75 southbound closed by landslide in northern TN

Southbound I-75 is closed indefinitely in northern TN by a landslide at mile 143. Detour is take Exit 160 to US-25W back to I-75 at Exit 134. TNDOT advises that delays are from 1 to 3 hours. They are working on setting up a northbound lane share to help alleviate this.

Good catch on this one George. That detour is very familiar to me inasmuch as I did about a month of field work in Campbell Co, TN back in 1978. US 25W is officially designated as an "improved goat trail" as is winds through the coal mining mountains of upper east TN. Travelers with most any reasonable alternative route should take it.

The crossover has been built - there is now one lane of southbound traffic using one of the northbound lanes. There are still 2 northbound lanes. Only wide loads have to get off I-75 and take the detour. I would still expect some southbound delays at times as this is a very busy highway.
