Default 10 day Road Trip in October/November 2012

We travel as much as possible and this year we are trying to plan a Road trip! 4 Adults for 10 days... HELP

We are flying in and out of Las Vegas and want to travel to Napa Valley and see what ever we should coming and going?

We want to include the Grand Canyon either at the beginning or the end of the trip.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! We can't wait....

    Default Your input.

Hi, and Welcome to the The Great American RoadTrip Forum.

What sorts of things intrigue you about this road trip? Are you interested in shopping? Solitary hikes, Sleeping in? Stargazing? What is your budget? How do you like to spend your $$ when on a holiday?

If you could share a little more about what goals you have for this trip, we'll jump in and share our suggestions.

    Default Getting started

Are you all seasoned travelers together? Have the same four adults spent time on past trips?

Las Vegas makes an outstanding hub city for road trips. How long do you want to spend in Las Vegas and how much road time would you like?

Here are some day trips from Las Vegas to get you started on this quest.

And here's a 2-day trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, Bryce and beyond.

    Default Heading to Napa.

To create a nice LV to LV loop via Napa, I would consider at least some of these options, or all. Death Valley, Yosemite NP, Napa, San Francisco, [Alcatraz, Golden Gate bridge etc] Monterey to Cambria along the very scenic coastal Highway section around Big Sur and then inland to the GC before heading back to Vegas.

As long as you are happy to keep 'on the go' and do not want to spend too long in one place, you could get an overview of each.

At the time you travel there is a chance that the very popular and scenic route across the Sierra Nevada on Tioga pass [CA120] will be closed, there is a good chance it won't be ! If it were, you could head south around the mountains after Death valley via Lake Isabella/Bakersfield. If you done so, Sequoia NP would be another option to consider. Another would be to head further north past Tioga pass to Lake Tahoe.

Once you have weighed up your many options and have an outline planned we can help piece it together.
