With all of your suggestions combined this looks like one of the final drafts of the route. I dotted the noteworthy towns to visit or stay in. I appreciate the time you guys took out to help a city slicker out :)

I will comb the site for more tips and general road trip pointers.

May I suggest a modification right at the end of the route?

At Aguanga, go the other direction on CA-79 and take that to I-8. Stop in Julian and get a piece of their famous apple pie. That's also a lot more scenic than I-15 and also has less traffic and construction.

After you leave Julian, head for Rt 78 and then Rt 67. That will take you down to Ramona.

Ramona has a couple of really good places to eat, if you like Mexican food. There's a little hole in the wall behind the McDonald's in town, called La Salsa, with affordable prices and good food (though it doesn't look like much of a place). That, and Mi Ranchita (right after you cross 10th Street, it would be on the left).

Once you leave Ramona, you can stay on Rt 67. Depending on where you're going in San Diego, you can either catch Poway Road (County Rd S4) to I-15,or continue down Rt 67 until it runs into I-8.

Scripps Poway Parkway is a lot better bet than Poway Road if you go that way - unless there's something you need to do in downtown Poway.

79 between Julian and I-8 is a very scenic road that goes through Cuyamaca State Park.

Actually, GLC, I've driven both SPP and Poway Road ... and it's pretty much "six of one, half a dozen of the other" in time wise. Too many lights were added along SPP, so it now has about as many lights as Poway Road. If you're going about noon, though, I'd say SPP -- Poway Road between 11 am and 1 pm can be a bear!!!!!!

As you said, it depends on exactly where in the San Diego area you are going. Now that the 52 extension is done, that is an excellent way to get from 67 to, say, the Miramar area. The only time that jams up is in morning rush, but anything going into the city in the morning is nasty!

    Hey Guys,

Just saw these great posts. Thanks. I edited my route to fit in the additional suggestions. I also noticed Nate Harrison Road and added that. Let me know what you think! :)
