  1. Default Montreal to Atlantic City

    Hey all,

We are 4 planning to go on a 3 day trip (during Canada day long weekend) to Atlantic City, NJ....
    my questions are:

    - are there any good beaches on the way so we can spend a day on the beach?
    - what to do in Atlantic city? site attraction, night life...etc
    - cheap and affordable accommodation in nearby cities (the hotels are pretty expensive in Atlantic City)

Thanks a lot for your help

It's about 500 miles from Montreal down to Atlantic City, which is a full day 10 hour drive (plus border crossing time) each direction. You may be on I-95 at least part of the time, which is a busy thoroughfare (my friend calls it a slow moving parking lot at times). Keep that in mind as you make your plans.

Atlantic City brings to mind the Boardwalk, Casinos, boating and shopping. My friend in Egg Harbor City talks about the wineries.

As far as affordable accommodations ... it's a resort town. Have you tried the lower priced chains like Motel 6? They won't be ritzy, nor right on top of the action, but they may be close to your price range. Otherwise, there is Absecon, Egg Harbor Township, Hamonton, that would be in driving distance. Look at roomsaver.com and see what pops up there.

There's the link. Several properties under $70 there.

    Thanks Donna for your help....
We've planned to stay in Absecon, NJ as its the closest and the accommodations are in our budget...

btw how does Room saver works? would these hotels honor these printed coupons?
Any suggestions for known restaurants/bars/clubs in Atlantic City?
How does toll or parking works?

thanks once again for your detailed answer :)

**btw I just found out that one of my friend received a speeding ticket last year in NY and he didn't pay it...would there be any problems when crossing the border even though he wont' be driving ?

I can help with the roomsaver bit. You can print out the coupon, or stop at a state visitor center and get one of the booklets. Either works. You bring it up to the place you want to stay. Only once have we ever been turned down, and that was because the place was fully booked.

Toll roads - you drive up to one, stop at the booth and a little machine feeds you a ticket that you take. It's printed with the time, date, and point of entrance onto the toll road. When you go to exit, there's another booth with a real live person. The person takes your ticket, and the money you owe. Most of them want cash unless you've got one of those transponder things. (We wouldn't use one often enough.)

Toll bridges - at one end or the other, they collect the bridge toll. I just researched and came up with 75c for most back east, or $1 at some.

Wish I could help on the speeding ticket bit! Out here in California, they may let you drive around, but once you get stopped for something else, you can get into trouble for an unpaid ticket. I have no idea about crossing the border.

Why worry about what would happen if you crossed the border. Why not just pay the ticket, and make sure he doesn't get another one.
