Spring Rite of Passage: Tioga Pass Prognosticator #11

Yes they are on flood alert at the moment with the snow pack up to 300% above average for June and temps set to hit the 80's in the valley and 70's 'up top'. The pass has been opened to bicycles from the west and east but not all the way across. An avalanche zone just to the east of Olmsted point seems to be of concern.

No updates since the 10th, but hurry up boy's there's less than 3 working days left before I would like it open !!

Just heard on the local news that Yosemite had to close campsites in Lower Pines Campground and some of the housekeeping tents due to flooding. The park had to relocate some campers today. The news suggested people with reservations for this weekend to call before driving up.

The FALLS in the video they showed were AWESOME!

Hoping that it takes about 9 1/2 more days for Tioga pass to open ;)

The Tioga Road will open on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 8 am.

Of course we still have to wait for the official announcement. They could possibly open it later today as they won't be working before 8am in the morning and it could be a ploy to stop traffic jams in the morning ? There are still a lot of warnings about, plus a lot of snow and a quick thaw going on. A lot can happen between now and then !
